Rogun Hydropower Project | Tajikistan

Pioneering 3D mapping for one of the world’s most ambitious engineering projects

For the Rogun Hydropower Project—home to the tallest rockfill dam with a clay core ever built, rising 335 meters above the Vakhsh River—we delivered the base cartography of the entire area. Our high-precision 3D survey covered a canyon over 2 km long and more than 300 meters deep, generating detailed 3D models, contour lines, and orthophotos to support the design and construction phases of this mega-project.

The challenge

The scale of the project and the rugged morphology of the canyon made traditional ground-based surveying impossible, even with long-range laser scanners.

The “ad hoc” solution”

We developed a dedicated 3D flight planner—an advanced application capable of defining preprogrammed drone flight paths modeled on the geomorphological profile of the canyon.
This breakthrough technology enabled us to capture even the most inaccessible areas.

The Result: A complete, consistent, and ultra-detailed 3D model of the entire site, empowering engineers and project managers with actionable data to drive one of the most important engineering achievements worldwide.
