Frasassi Gorge

High-precision 3D survey for rockfall risk mitigation

On behalf of ANAS, we carried out a rapid 3D survey of the Frasassi Gorge, aimed at supporting rockfall protection and risk mitigation works along the road crossing the area.

The challenge

The Frasassi Gorge is a geologically complex and hard-to-access environment. It was necessary to provide, in extremely short timeframes, a complete geometric and cartographic description of the gorge to enable immediate planning of safety interventions. of the throat, useful for immediate planning of safety measures.

The “ad hoc” solution”

In record time, we surveyed the entire area using high-precision laser scanner technology, producing a detailed and georeferenced 3D model. This dataset allowed engineers to:
– perform targeted geotechnical analyses,
identify and locate unstable volumes,
simulate rockfall trajectories,
– thus providing immediate operational support for defining protection and containment works.

A complex project, completed in record time with maximum geometric accuracy.
