We carried out a high-precision 3D survey of the statue of the Goddess Hathor, one of the most iconic figures of the Egyptian Museum of Turin, and subsequently produced its full-scale replica for a public installation of great visual impact.
The challenge
The goal of the project was to communicate the reopening of the Museum in an evocative way, enhancing the Egyptological heritage through a contemporary language capable of connecting technology, art, and the public. It was essential to obtain a replica perfectly faithful to the original in terms of dimensions and materials, while ensuring high structural resistance for outdoor display.
The “ad hoc” solution”
Starting from the digital model obtained through ultra-high-resolution 3D surveying, we produced the physical replica of the statue, later placed inside a large transparent hourglass installed in Piazza San Carlo, Turin, six months before the Museum’s reopening. As time passed, the sand descending in the hourglass gradually revealed the figure of the goddess, creating a scenographic effect of strong emotional impact and becoming a symbol of the rebirth of the Egyptian Museum.
The Result: A project that combines digital technology, creativity, and visual storytelling, demonstrating how 3D surveying can also become a powerful tool for communication and cultural enhancement.
