On behalf of the Cinque Terre National Park, we delivered a full 3D cartography of the entire area, supporting hydrogeological risk management, trail maintenance, and the mapping of terraced landscapes.
The challenge
The Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s most iconic and complex environments: steep Ligurian slopes plunging into the sea, dense Mediterranean vegetation, and a vast network of terracing. The challenge was to provide, in record time, a precise and comprehensive mapping of a vast and morphologically extreme territory.
The “ad hoc” solution”
We employed a combination of laser scanner surveys and autonomous drones, programmed via predefined 3D flight paths to maintain a constant distance from the ground.
By combining high-precision laser scanning with autonomous drone surveys, programmed through predefined 3D flight paths, we ensured constant ground coverage. Custom-developed algorithms allowed us to digitally remove vegetation and reconstruct the true terrain profile, producing a consistent and highly accurate 3D model.
The Result: An extreme landscape, mapped with precision and transformed into actionable data. Today, managing authorities can rely on this technical foundation to make informed operational and strategic decisions for conservation and safety.
