We have performed the 3D surveying and production of orthophotos of the dome of all tunnels along the Brenner A22 motorway, with the aim of providing a comprehensive and up-to-date technical base for the activities of assessment, inspection and scheduled maintenance.
The challenge
The Brenner motorway is a major strategic infrastructure characterised by very high traffic volumes and numerous galleries subject, according to the Italian ministerial regulations, to rigorous periodic checks. The operational windows for carrying out the surveys were extremely limited, and the quality of the data required had to guarantee the maximum geometric and photographic accuracy to enable reliable analysis.
The “ad hoc” solution”
We conducted the survey operations with 3D laser scanner e very high resolution photogrammetric acquisitions, obtaining detailed three-dimensional models e orthophoto of the vault of each tunnel.
These figures now represent a integrated digital base for:
– support routine and special inspections,
– facilitate the early detection of deterioration or anomalies,
– optimise the maintenance planning in a complex operational context such as motorways.
A project that combines metric precision, operating speed and technical value supporting the safety and management of one of Europe's main transport arteries.
