We carried out a high-precision 3D survey of the wooden attics of Palazzo Madama<\/strong>, with the aim of describing the structure and conservation <\/strong>state of the trusses supporting the vault of the Senate Hall<\/strong> and documenting the attic of the Juvarrian counter-fa\u00e7ade<\/strong>, where remains of the ancient seventeenth-century fa\u00e7ade<\/strong> were identified.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The intervention presented significant operational complexities<\/strong> due to the nature of the spaces<\/strong>:
narrow, dark, and difficult-to-access environments<\/strong> that made data acquisition challenging. Under these conditions, each phase of the survey required careful planning<\/strong> and the use of flexible scanning techniques<\/strong>, many of which were performed without a tripod<\/strong> to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cad hoc\u201d solution\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Through a large number of scans and meticulous data processing, it was possible to fully document the wooden and masonry structures<\/strong>, producing a complete and coherent 3D model<\/strong> of the entire system. From the survey, a series of highly detailed technical drawings<\/strong> were also generated \u2014 plans, elevations, and black-and-white sections<\/strong> \u2014 designed to highlight geometries and floor<\/strong> transitions with the clarity of pencil drawings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Result: A highly precise three-dimensional and two-dimensional representation<\/strong> that fully met the client\u2019s requirements<\/strong>, providing a solid foundation for studies, restoration work, and the enhancement of the monument<\/strong>. A project that demonstrates how 3D surveying technology<\/strong>, when applied with method and sensitivity, can reveal and preserve the hidden complexity of historic architecture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
