{"id":3819,"date":"2025-11-11T17:39:46","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T16:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adhoc3d.com\/?post_type=caso-studio&#038;p=3819"},"modified":"2025-11-11T17:42:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T16:42:12","slug":"archaeological-excavations-at-porta-pretoria","status":"publish","type":"caso-studio","link":"https:\/\/www.adhoc3d.com\/en\/caso-studio\/scavi-archeologici-di-porta-pretoria\/","title":{"rendered":"Archaeological excavations at Porta Pretoria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-398b52d4 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">We carried out a complete <strong>3D survey of the urban excavation at Porta Pretoria in Aosta<\/strong>, producing three-dimensional models and orthophotos corresponding to <strong>18 different excavation phases<\/strong>, each linked to the emergence of major archaeological contexts of interest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The goal was to <strong>comprehensively and three-dimensionally document the entire excavation process<\/strong>, maintaining consistency between geometric, stratigraphic, and descriptive information. The complexity of the site and the need to manage large amounts of heterogeneous data required an <strong>integrated digital system<\/strong> capable of combining the precision of 3D surveying with the methodological structure of traditional archaeological documentation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u201cad hoc\u201d solution\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">We developed a <strong>dedicated 3D management platform<\/strong> based on <strong>Ad Hoc AM software<\/strong>, which allows: <br>\n\u2013 compiling and visualizing <strong>US, USM, and UT records<\/strong> directly in a 3D environment, <br>\n\u2013 integrating <strong>phase and period plans<\/strong>, <br>\n\u2013 processing <strong>stratigraphic sections and documentation<\/strong>, <br>\n\u2013 generating and updating <strong>the Matrix and 3D Matrix<\/strong> in real time.\n<br><br>\nThe Result: thanks to this approach, it was possible to obtain <strong>complete, coherent, and navigable three-dimensional documentation<\/strong>, making the excavation fully <strong>traceable, analyzable, and shareable<\/strong> among archaeologists, designers, and institutions. An exemplary case of <strong>integration between digital surveying and stratigraphic methodology<\/strong>, representing a new frontier in <strong>archaeological data documentation and management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to this approach, it has been possible to achieve a&nbsp;<strong>complete, consistent and navigable three-dimensional documentation<\/strong>, which made the excavation&nbsp;<strong>fully traceable, analysable and shareable<\/strong>&nbsp;between archaeologists, designers and institutions.
